Honors

"The 9/11 Medals are awarded to recognize varying levels of exemplary service, public policy leadership, and contributions to security resilience." Through these honors, we recognize individuals and organizations that have distinguished themselves in policing, public safety, and the protection and resilience of the global transportation sector.

Our Mission

We honor our fallen colleagues and all those who continue the fight against terrorism and other serious crime within our global communities. We strive to advance innovation, educate, train, and provide best practices to achieve these efforts for critical infrastructure, mass events, transportation, and border security.

We ensure no authority is deprived of knowledge and access through our assistance programs for the good of public safety — to make a safer world.

"Morrone was an innovator, forward-thinking, and an advocate to assist countries across the globe, including third-world nations."

The Morrone Educational Committee was established at the 9/11 Memorial on September 11, 2002. In 2012, it was made a standalone 501c3 organization, and supports the INTERPORTPOLICE in our education, training, and honors efforts.

Recognition Program

9/11 Medals

The 9/11 Center bestows honors upon individuals and organizations who have made exceptional contributions to public safety, security, and the global fight against terrorism.

IPM

Order of the International Police and Public Safety 9/11 Medal

Bestowed on law enforcement and public safety individuals who have contributed in an extraordinary and selfless manner in the fight against terrorist activities through prevention, protection, and preparedness. May also be bestowed for valor.

IPMc

Distinguished Security Commendation 9/11 Medal

Awarded for a significant and distinguished contribution at the national or local level for extraordinary achievement or project accomplishment. May be given to an individual, authority, or government.

Memorial Award

Fred V. Morrone 9/11 Memorial Medal

Presented in the name of Superintendent Fred V. Morrone to an individual who has shown an extraordinary contribution to making the world a safer place — a public safety or policy leader who has significantly advanced homeland, transportation, or border security.

Fred Morrone was our close colleague — the Executive Vice President and incoming President of the Board of INTERPORTPOLICE at the time of his death. His innovative ideas and global aspiration to educate officers on counterterrorism throughout the transportation security global theater was his vision.

Organization Award

9/11 Transportation Enterprise Security Award

Recognizing organizations that excel in enhancing transportation security through prevention, protection, and preparedness. This award honors the outstanding contributions of public and private sector organizations to the global security enterprise.

Eligibility

Honor Categories

The honors system recognizes officers, officials, and organizations who have made significant achievements in policing, public safety, and security, and who are committed to serving and protecting their Country and the global community.

They must still be actively involved in what they are nominated for. The only honors that can be awarded after someone's death are valor awards for bravery.
