INTERPORTPOLICE Supports Aabaarso Tech University in Hargeisa

From September to November 2024, Interport Police is proud to announce its support for Aabaarso Tech University in Hargeisa. This initiative marks a significant partnership aimed at enhancing educational resources and providing critical opportunities for students pursuing technology and related fields. Aabaarso Tech University is already recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, and with the backing of Interport Police, this collaboration is expected to further elevate the university's capabilities.

During a maritime security-related visit to the port of Berbera in Somaliland, INTERPORTPOLICE DSG Chris Trelawny met security officials who were studying for their Master's in Maritime Security Development and Strategy Studies at Abaarso Tech University in Hargeisa.

As INTERPORTPOLICE is focussed on promoting effective security in ports and airports, we were happy to share knowledge on practical aspects of maritime security with the students.

In six sessions, delivered remotely during September, October and November 2024, INTERPORTPOLICE gave lectures on how the International Maritime Organization works, the development of maritime security measures, security in ports, the development of counter piracy measures including the legal challenges of armed security teams on board, the effects of climate change on maritime security and new and emerging threats to maritime security. Recurring themes included the need for a whole-of-government approach to maritime security and the programmes offered by INTERPORTPOLICE.
