Policing is expensive and in today’s world of budgetary limitations, it is crucial to remember the value of the community and community support. Community policing heritage dates back hundreds of years. Reaching out to the communities, and including those organizations and individuals into the security solutions can assist in developing an all-inclusive and all-encompassing security environment.

Community policing and security is about connecting with the community, building trust, forming a relationship, and committing resources to ensure there is regular contact. It needs to be supported by multiple stakeholders. A multi-agency approach will provide that ‘ring of steel’ security. In addition to formal intelligence methods, community contact will enhance available intelligence and information sharing.
